US And Egypt Work On Ceasefire And Humanitarian Aid Plan

Ecuador's President Daniel Noboa details plans for new prisons, in Quito

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has expressed optimism that progress is being made towards a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in exchange for the release of hostages. Blinken acknowledged that challenges remain but noted that efforts are underway to bridge the gaps in negotiations.

Blinken revealed that collaborative efforts involving Egypt, Qatar, and Israel have resulted in a proposal that has been positively received by Hamas. He emphasized that despite the complexities involved, he believes a deal is still within reach.

Addressing concerns about a potential Israeli operation in the Rafah region of Gaza, Blinken asserted that the US is confident that Hamas can be effectively managed without resorting to a major ground offensive. He cautioned against such a move, labeling it as a mistake, and hinted at alternative strategies that will be discussed during an upcoming visit by an Israeli delegation to Washington, DC.

During a joint press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry in Cairo, Blinken and Shoukry pledged to work together on concrete measures to enhance humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza. Both officials reiterated their opposition to military actions in Rafah, emphasizing the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Shoukry affirmed Egypt's commitment to facilitating a cessation of hostilities and ending the ongoing military activities in the region. He assured that Egypt stands ready to provide any necessary support to achieve these objectives.
