An unusual US Air Force military aircraft made a special appearance at a Scots airport.
Plane watchers in Sumburgh Airport in the Shetlands were stunned when the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey aircraft appeared and hovered overhead. The tiltrotor military aircraft stayed stationery in the sky for at least one minute before it departed, according to onlookers.
One man explained to the Record that the 'unusual' aircraft arrived at the Shetland airport from the west, just past Fitful Head, before it hovered above them and then headed off eastwards..
The US aircraft has been used in missions in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and Kuwait since entering service.
Sumburgh Airport is the main airport serving Shetland and is owned by Highlands and Islands Airports Limited and served by Loganair.
The unique Bell Boeing aircraft is designed to have both the functions of a helicopter and a plane, being in service since 1989.
