Urgent warning to Creamfields festivalgoers after young man seriously injured on M56

Revellers attending Creamfields festival this weekend have been issued a warning after a man was seriously injured during a crash on the M56.

The man, aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital following the smash involving a pedestrian and a car on the Westbound section of the motorway close to the festival site.

Emergency services were scrambled to the scene of the crash, which happened at the exit slip road at junction 11 for the A56 Chester Road at Preston Brook at around 1.45pm on Thursday (August 25).

Cheshire Police reported that the crash involved a pedestrian and a car, with the male pedestrian sustaining serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

National Highways are now urging people attending the festival not to exit their vehicle at any point along the motorway following the serious crash - which saw the road closed for several hours.

"The incident happened adjacent on the busy road close to the Creamfields festival which is being staged this weekend," they said in a statement. "Additional traffic is likely to be attracted to the site over the duration of the event, which runs until Sunday.

"Drivers and passengers attending the festival are reminded that exiting their vehicle at any point along the network are putting themselves and others at serious risk."

Alan Shepherd, National Highways’ Regional Director for the north west, said: "We work tirelessly to keep our roads as safe as possible for everyone who uses them. Unfortunately, there are incidents out of our control during which people are injured or put at risk.

"We are appealing to those attending Creamfields and using this section of the M56 to follow the rules of the road and get to their destination safely."
