Urgent travel warning for Irish tourists as strikes reported across Europe this bank holiday weekend

Irish holidaymakers who will be jetting off on June bank holiday weekend have been warned of a number of strikes across Europe.

Sunseekers have been asked to keep an eye on the local news for the area of travel as these strikes could result in major disruptions to travel plans. A whopping 220,000 passengers are expected to depart from Dublin Airport during the four-day period between Friday and Monday.

Baggage handlers in Italy will be going on strike this Sunday, June 4. Additionally, Spanish pilots took industrial action in a dispute against the Spanish Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agency over a "minimum services" law, which states that 90% of scheduled flights must go ahead despite labour action.

Train drivers in the UK are also on strike on Saturday, June 3 which will affect a number of rail services.

Back home, Dublin Airport has warned passengers that demand for its car park is at an all-time high. People have been urged to pre-book spaces ahead of their journey.

Anyone without an existing car park booking is urged to consider travelling to the airport "via public transport, taxi or being dropped off by a friend or relative".
