Urgent search for young girl who knocked on door saying 'I'm lost' before running off

Police are frantically looking to track down a young girl who knocked on strangers' doors asking for help.

The juvenile, who is understood to be around six years old, knocked on a door to say “I’m lost” before quickly legging it away, The Daily Star reported.

Officers reacted to a concerned call and arrived at the Hele area of Torquay, Devon in the UK, to search for the girl.

The unidentified child was described as white with long blonde hair. She was wearing a black coat at the time of the incident, police have revealed.

Those who saw her say the child did not show any sign of “distress” or appear to be in a state of upset at all.

After darting from the property, the little girl ran in the direction of the Farm Foods shop at around 11 am this Wednesday.

A number of police vehicles have been seen scouring the area around the shop, according to Devon Live.

Police have carried out some house-to-house enquiries in an effort to locate the young girl.

The National Police Air Service (NPAS) is also on the case, authorities have confirmed, with the helicopter seen over the Exmouth and Dawlish area in the UK.

A police spokesperson said: "Our primary objective is to identify and find this little girl so that we can check her safety and welfare.

"Officers have been carrying out house-to-house enquiries in efforts to identify her and searches are ongoing to find her.

"The girl didn't present as being in distress or upset and was last seen running in the direction of Farm Foods at around 11am.

"We have released a CCTV picture of her in hopes that someone might recognise her and let us know who she is."

If anyone sees the girl in the image or has any information, they are being urged to call 999 quoting log 227 of 5 April.
