Urgent search for missing Paisley pensioner who 'may have travelled to Argyll'

Police have launched an urgent appeal to trace a missing pensioner who vanished over 24 hours ago.

Stephen Read was last seen in the Corsebar Road area of Paisley at roughly 8.05am on Sunday, March 5.

The 74-year-old is described as white, 6ft tall and of slim build with short grey/white hair and a beard.

He speaks with an English accent and was last seen dressed in a beige jumper, a black leather motorbike jacket, black leather motorbike trousers and black leather gloves. He also wears round, gold framed glasses.

Renfrewshire police say there is a possibility Stephen may have travelled by bus to Inveraray in Argyll and are liaising with officers in this area.

Sergeant Mandy Gillespie, Paisley Police Station, said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to trace Stephen Read. Officers have been checking CCTV and searching the local area but so far no one has seen him in.

“There is a possibility that he may have travelled by bus to Inveraray in Argyll. Officers are currently checking the town and surrounding area to check.

“We would ask anyone who may have seen Stephen or who has any information as to his whereabouts to contact us. We’d also ask Stephen to call police to let us know he is safe and well. Our concern is only for his welfare.”

Anyone with information on Stephen's whereabouts is urged to call police on 101 quoting reference number 0981 of Sunday, 5 March 2023.
