Thousands of toys and costumes for children that were sold in Smyths and on Amazon and eBay have been recalled due to serious safety risks.
Issues including potential choking hazards, strangulation and ingestion of dangerous materials have been listed. There are thousands of products that were bought by Irish customers both in store and online.
The most popular item is the Smyths own brand jumping ball. Around 5,000 balls have been sold across the country and it presents a chemical risk.

The CCPC warns: "The product presents a chemical risk as the maximum permitted concentration of the plasticiser DIBP is significantly exceeded. DIBP may harm children’s health, as it may have effects toxic to reproduction. The brand is Smyths Toys. The type/number of model is 124625. The bar code is 5390946046107 or 2400018526222. The batch numbers affected in the Republic of Ireland are 202009, 202109, 202110, 202112, 202204, 202205, 202207, 202209.
"The batch number can be found underneath the hard plastic board, or on the packaging. There are approximately 5,000 affected products in the Republic of Ireland."
Products from eBay that could have been potentially sold here include the Worm from Labrinyth toy doll (item number is 185411484777), wooden magnetic fishing toy (item number is 224786988751), the soft pillow toy goose (batch number is 2-A05-28-05, e-Bay item number is 314091828792), Beehive Pirate Fishing Game and the Happy Bed Bell Crib Musical Mobile (item number is 402979692246). All items should be no longer used and the eBay seller should be contacted.
While a wide range of costumes sold on Amazon from the Dress Up America Children’s Costumes range are being recalled. Anyone who purchased one should discontinue use immediately and contact Amazon. They include:
