An urgent recall has been issued for a batch of ice cream bars in Ireland due to the presence of a dangerous pesticide.
The FSAI is warning people against consuming Mars Bounty ice cream bars after an unauthorised pesticide ethylene oxide was detected in certain batches.
Ethylene oxide is a pesticide that is not permitted for use in foods sold in the EU but is approved for use by other countries outside the EU.

Ice cream bars with the following batch code have been recalled: 037C3DOE02, best before date: 31/08/2022, size 51.6g
A notice on the FSAI said: "Although the consumption of the contaminated product does not pose an acute risk to health, there is an increased risk if there is continued consumption of ethylene oxide in contaminated food over a long period of time. Therefore, exposure to ethylene oxide needs to be minimised."
Continuous exposure to ethylene oxide may increase the risk of cancers like lymphoma and leukaemia.
