Authorities have issued a warning for civilians in and around the eastern Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk to evacuate immediately due to the rapid advancement of Russian forces. The head of the military administration in Myrnohrad, Yurii Tretiak, emphasized the urgency of the situation, urging residents not to wait but to leave as soon as possible.
The community, which includes Pokrovsk City, Myrnohrad town, and surrounding villages, has a total population of nearly 59,000. Approximately 600 to 700 people are evacuating daily, with efforts being made to evacuate as many residents as possible within the next two weeks.
Pokrovsk, though not a major city, plays a crucial role as a hub for the Ukrainian military, facilitating the movement of troops and supplies to strategic locations. Ukrainian forces are currently facing heightened tensions in the Pokrovsk sector, with ongoing clashes and attacks reported in the area.
Despite the escalating danger, some residents are hesitant to evacuate, citing concerns about not having a place to go or feeling unwanted. Authorities have encountered cases where parents have hidden their children, prompting the military administration to take action to ensure the safety of all residents.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced plans to reinforce troops in the eastern region to counter potential Russian advances. The situation remains volatile, with both Ukrainian and Russian forces engaged in military operations along the border regions.
In a separate incident, Russian forces claim to have repelled a Ukrainian incursion attempt into the Bryansk region. The area is now reportedly under Russian control following clashes between Ukrainian DRG units and Russian security forces.
Ukraine has not officially commented on the alleged incursion, but previous operations have seen Ukrainian forces making significant territorial gains in Russian territory. The recent developments mark a shift in tactics for Ukraine, with foreign troops entering Russian soil for the first time since World War II.
