Urgent easyJet travel warning issued to people with flights booked today

Budget airline easyJet has issued a warning to anyone flying to or from Italy today as strike action in the country may disrupt travel.

Among walkouts in the country, ground handling services in airports will be striking, which the airline warns could affect its flight schedule. Customers are also asked to "allow additional time" when travelling to and from airports as public transport could also be impacted by strikes in Italy.

Despite the warning, easyJet has said that customers will not be entitled to claim for compensation as a result of the industrial action, reports the Echo.

EasyJet said: "We have been informed of national strike action in Italy on Friday, April 21 which will affect areas in the airport including ground handling services.

"Like all airlines operating to and from Italy, we may see some disruption to our flying programme on this date. We advise customers travelling to or from Italy on Friday, April 21 to allow additional time to travel to and from the airport and please continue to check flight tracker for further updates.

"Should any flights be cancelled then we will contact customers via email and SMS using the details provided at the time of booking and check in."

Italy is currently experiencing a 24-hour strike with unions across multiple sectors including public transport and travel walking out.

The airline said that those who experience cancellations due to disruption may be entitled to a refund, but they will not compensate customers for disruptions.

They added: "For cancelled flights only, we advise customers not to travel to the airport but to transfer their flights free of charge or take a refund by logging onto Manage Bookings on easyJet.com or our Flight Tracker: easyjet.com/XXXX (Your flight number).

"In accordance with EU261 regulations, customers will not be entitled to claim for compensation as a result of the industrial action.

"Although this is outside of our control, we would like to reassure customers that we are doing all we can to minimise any disruption that may occur as a result of the strike action."
