Urgent appeal as Scots couple facing £8,000 vet bills in fight to keep pet dog alive

A Linwood couple whose beloved dog faced being put down after a freak injury left him paralysed have issued a heartfelt plea to help fund a life-saving operation.

Megan Stewart and partner Corey Inglis were devastated when they were told there were no other treatment options for their French Bulldog Milo.

An injury to his neck has resulted in a slipped disc, causing the previously active and playful pup severe pain and leaving him unable to walk.

Megan and Corey faced the heartbreaking decision to have Milo euthanised or pay thousands of pounds for spinal surgery.

The decision left the couple, who say the dog is like their child, feeling helpless.

Corey said: “I felt so helpless standing there having to make that decision on Milo’s life, and it felt like a blow to my manhood by not being able to do anything to help him.

“The mental torture that me and my partner have gone through the last five weeks is unreal with the situations we have had to deal with.”

So far, Megan and Corey have forked out £4,000 to see a specialist and pay for half of the surgery fees.

But further MRI scans and other vet costs could see the final bill totalling almost £8,000.

The pair have now set up a Gofundme page in a bid to help cover some of the costs to bring Milo back home.

And the couple say they have been blown away by the support.

Corey added: “Starting the Gofundme page was something the animal shelter I called asking for help made me do and if it wasn’t for that call I don’t think Milo would have been where he was.

“The expenses are just ridiculous as we have paid over £3,000 so far for the specialist and also 50 per cent of the surgery cost upfront.

“It is so heartwarming the number of strangers, family and friends that have chipped in with anything to help Milo. It is massively appreciated.

“Me and Megan were just surprised at the comments of people saying they thought Milo was amazing.

“To even set up the gofundme was hard as I had to swallow my pride and ask for help, but I had no other choice as Milo is like my kid.”

Milo has now undergone the life-saving surgery at The University of Glasgow Small Animal Hospital, but the couple now face an agonising wait to see how well he recovers.

They also face a long journey to help Milo get better as vets have explained he may need to be taught how to walk again.

Corey added: “We are not out of the darkness just yet, Milo has a long road ahead.”

Megan and Corey have also said any money which may be left over after paying the vet bills will be donated to an animal charity.
