Top-ranked Iga Swiatek and U.S. Open champion Coco Gauff faced early exits at the Miami Open, with Swiatek losing to Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-4, 6-2 and Gauff falling to Caroline Garcia in three sets 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.

In the men's draw, top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the round of 16 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Gael Monfils.

Alexandrova secured her first victory against a top-ranked player and will face Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals. Swiatek, who had won their previous three encounters, expressed disappointment at her performance against Alexandrova.
