We are through one week of Tennessee Titans training camp and there are already some changes to be made from our last 53-man roster projection.
It has been an interesting camp thus far, with a ton of attention being paid to the quarterbacks, and in particular Will Levis and Malik Willis, both of whom are battling for the No. 2 spot behind Ryan Tannehill.
And, in the case of Willis, he’s battling for a roster spot altogether, although I think he’s done enough so far to keep him around in my latest projection.
A few undrafted rookies have stood out enough to earn themselves a spot here, but, of course, that doesn’t mean they’re completely safe with such a long way to go until final cuts.
Now, our updated 53-man projection based on what happened at training camp the first week. Players with an asterisk are new additions, and we’ve provided a write-up for each.
Note: Nicholas Petit-Frere and Dillon Radunz are not included because the former is suspended for the first six games and won’t count towards the 53-man group, while we expect the latter to start the season on the PUP list.
Daily camp reports: Day 1 / Day 2 / Day 3 / Day 4
1
QB Ryan Tannehill

2
QB Malik Willis

3
QB Will Levis

4
RB Derrick Henry

5
RB Tyjae Spears

6
RB Hassan Haskins

7
RB Julius Chestnut*

Replaced: RB Jonathan Ward
This isn’t based on much more than the fact that Chestnut’s name has been more prevalent than our previous selection for the No. 4 running back spot, Jonathan Ward.
This spot is still very much up for grabs, if it ends up existing at all.
8
WR DeAndre Hopkins

9
WR Treylon Burks

10
WR Kyle Philips

11
WR Chris Moore

12
WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine

13
WR Tre'Shaun Harrison*

Replaced: WR Racey McMath
Of the players vying for what figures to be one available spot at the position, Harrison has stood out more over guys like Colton Dowell and Racey McMath.
This is an admittedly shaky projection, though, and McMath and Dowell remain very much in the running for this spot.
14
TE Chigoziem Okonkwo

15
TE Trevon Wesco

16
TE Josh Whyle

17
TE Kevin Rader

18
LT Andre Dillard

19
LG Peter Skoronski

20
C Aaron Brewer

21
RG Daniel Brunskill

22
RT Jamarco Jones

23
OL Corey Levin

24
OL John Ojukwu*

Replaced: OL Andrew Rupcich
Ojukwu was listed as one of two players getting first-team reps at right tackle early on in camp, along with Jones. That, at the very least, puts him on the map for a roster spot.
25
OL Jaelyn Duncan

26
OL Jordan Roos

27
DL Jeffery Simmons

28
DL Denico Autry

29
DL Teair Tart

30
DL Sam Okuayinonu

31
DL Naquan Jones

32
DL Jaleel Johnson

33
LB Azeez Al-Shaair

34
LB Monty Rice

35
LB Jack Gibbens*

Replaced: LB Ben Niemann
After practice on Monday it was revealed that Dr. Gibby was rotating with Monty Rice on the first-team offense, which now puts him firmly on the radar for a roster spot, and quite possibly a starting or rotational role on Tennessee’s defense.
36
LB Luke Gifford

37
OLB Harold Landry

38
OLB Arden Key

39
OLB Rashad Weaver

40
OLB Caleb Murphy

41
CB Kristian Fulton

42
CB Sean Murphy-Bunting

43
CB Elijah Molden

44
CB Roger McCreary

45
CB Tre Avery

46
CB Chris Jackson

47
CB Caleb Farley

Farley is not a new addition, but my concern meter in terms of his ability to take part in training camp went up a bit more this week after he was not activated from the PUP list.
Now, that’s not to say I’m expecting anything from Farley this season, but it does mean I may have to remove him from future projections and consider him a candidate to start the season on the PUP list instead the longer he’s sidelined.
The last we heard of him back in June, Farley was lifting, which led me to believe he’s close. Perhaps that assumption was wrong.
48
S Kevin Byard

49
S Amani Hooker

50
S A.J. Moore*

I did add him afterwards, but Moore wasn’t originally included in our last 53-man projection because he was signed after publishing. With the lack of depth options at safety, he feels like a near-lock.
Only three safeties?
I remain fairly confident the Titans will only carry three traditional safeties and seven cornerbacks with the way things stand now.
That’s because Molden has been getting looks at the position this offseason and will likely be the next man up if Byard or Hooker go down to injury. I’d also pencil in Chris Jackson as a possibility for a role on the back-end.
If Farley remains out and looks like he’ll start the season on the PUP list, I’d roll with another safety in UDFA Tyreque Jones, who has made some plays early on in camp, including an interception.
51
P Ryan Stonehouse

52
K Caleb Shudak

While Shudak remains the choice here, he and UDFA Trey Wolff are currently running neck-and-neck for the job. This competition remains completely up in the air.
