Update on woman, 22, killed in tunnel crash

An update was issued over the death of a 22 year old woman killed in a tunnel crash.

Paige Rice, 22, and her boyfriend were travelling in an Audi S3 through the Queensway tunnel in the early hours of Sunday, October 17 when they crashed with a taxi.

Both Paige and her boyfriend, also in his 20s, died in the crash and the taxi driver suffered serious injuries and spent weeks in hospital before being sent to a rehabilitation centre.

Now a date for the inquest into Paige's death has been released by Liverpool and Wirral Coroner's Court. Her inquest will take place on Monday, January 31, at the Gerard Majella Courthouse in Kirkdale.

Inquests are conducted to look into the circumstances surrounding a death and should give the family answers on how, when and where Paige died.

On November 17, the family and friends of Paige Rice said their final goodbyes at a funeral held at Woodlands Crematorium in Birmingham.

The nail technician from the West Midlands would have been 23 the day before she was laid to rest.

Her mum Clare said Paige had been in Liverpool visiting her boyfriend, who was the driver of the car and died in hospital a few days later.

Further details about him have not been released.

Following Paige's death her mum Clare paid a heartbreaking tribute to her daughter.

She told BirminghamLive : "Paige was just so full of life. She lived life to the full. She was a beautiful woman inside and out. Her smile would light up a room.

"Paige worked incredibly hard and at the age of 22 had already done lots of jobs.

"She started as a make up artist when she was just 15 and was working selling cars and as a nail technician when she died.

"Paige was incredibly popular and had so many friends. She loved the attention but not in an arrogant, bad way.

"She loved social media and had a large following on Instagram."

Paige was incredibly close to her mum and brother Tyler and supported Clare through chronic illness.

She added: "We were like the three musketeers, myself Paige and Ty.

"Paige loved all her family and was a very popular girl with a massive group of friends.

"She had massive dreams, wanted to see the world and live a full life. "Paige would fill her time with being social in between working hard and looking after me.

"She always looked on the positive and a lot of people looked up to her."

After the incident Merseyside Police said they would be carrying out a full investigation into the cause of the crash.
