Update on schoolgirl hit by car and airlifted to hospital

Emergency services have given an update on a young girl who was hit by a car and airlifted to hospital.

Earlier this evening (Thursday, February 9) police confirmed a young girl was hit by a red Nissan Qashqai at around 3.30pm. The incident happened on Old Chester Road which is now closed with drivers asked to avoid the area.

The girl suffered a serious head injury in the crash and was airlifted to hospital by the North West Air Ambulance Charity. The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries.

Police have now confirmed to The ECHO that the schoolgirl is still in a "serious" condition but her injuries are not life threatening. She remains in hospital.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "We can confirm that emergency services are on Old Chester Road in Bebington following a serious collision this afternoon, Thursday 9 February. Just after 3.30pm we received a report of a collision involving a red Nissan Qashqai and a pedestrian.

"The pedestrian, a young girl, sustained a serious head injury and has been taken to hospital via an air ambulance. The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries.

"Old Chester Road is closed whilst emergency services remain at the scene and drivers are asked to avoid the area."
