Update on man left fighting for life after bus crash

Police have issued an update after a man was fighting for his life following a bus crash.

Officers from Merseyside Police were called to to Rainhill Road in St Helens at around 8.50am on Monday, October 17, following reports of a crash. Once officers arrived at the scene they found a bus and motorbike had crashed and requested help from the North West Ambulance Service.

On Monday, a spokesperson for the force said the motorbike rider, a man in his 30s, was seriously injured and taken to hospital by ambulance. The man's injuries were described as life threatening by police.

In an update today, police said he remains "critical but stable in hospital". The bus driver stopped at the scene and is helping police with their enquiries.

It is understood the road was closed to drivers for a number of hours as police carried out enquiries.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said on Monday: "Rainhill Road is closed while emergency services attend the incident. We ask that drivers avoid the area and find an alternative route. We thank you for your patience as we deal with this incident.

"We are appealing for any witnesses, CCTV and dash camera footage which may assist the investigation."
