The proposed refurbishment of the building which used to house Argos in Beeston is set to take a step forward this week. Plans submitted on behalf of Broxtowe Borough Council seek to make alterations to the building and create two new shop entrances.
New lighting and canopy works also former part of the refurbishment. The plans are set to be discussed at the authority's planning committee meeting on Wednesday (May 4).
And council officers have recommended that advertisement consent should be granted in relation to 35-37 The Square. "It is considered that the proposed external works will enhance shopfronts 35-37 and make a positive impact upon the character and appearance of Beeston town centre," a statement in a council planning report reads.

Nottinghamshire Live reported in March that there were offers in place for the former Argos building, with plans for a shisha bar on the ground floor and a virtual reality gaming space on the first floor. The proposals would add to the multi-million-pound regeneration of Beeston Square in the town centre.
The £50m landmark Beeston Square development - which includes the Arc Cinema as its centrepiece - has been described as the town's 'answer to Nottingham’s Cornerhouse'. Separate new venues have been announced for Beeston Square in recent months and hopes in the town are growing.
The Beeston Square development also includes the building of 132 homes opposite the cinema site. The eight-screen Arc Cinema, which has an equivalent in Hucknall, was opened last year by the acclaimed film director Shane Meadows.
