Update issued on popular Nottinghamshire pub that closed after a 'rough ride'

New operators are being sought for a popular village pub which closed after previous tenants said it experienced a 'rough ride'. The New Inn, in Newthorpe, closed shortly before Christmas and the owner is now for new management.

A recruitment open day was being at the venue on Thursday, May 5, with a view to finding the right manager for the property. The pub had struggled amid Covid restrictions but recruiters are looking for a strong team to make the venue the hub of its community again.

The advert reads: "Previously the business has been operated as a community local with entertainment and sports teams. Currently, we are looking for a tenant who can make the New Inn the hub of the local community. Driving entertainment, sport and community events is essential. There is also a big opportunity to drive cask sales with a great offer."

Adam Muxlow, Business developer manager, is looking after the pub and the recruitment day. He hopes the pub will find a new tenant soon so it can be reopened.

"We are looking for a community operator to turn it back into a community hub again. That's what our recruitment open day is because it's a tenanted pub. We've got a few people expected to turn up today so fingers crossed we can get the ball rolling on opening the pub."

He added: "It's about finding the operator to turn it into a real hub because it's situated right in the estate here. It's very central here, especially for the elderly who don't want to walk into town but need a safe environment."

The previous owners noted that it hadn't been the easiest of times as they opened just before Christmas in 2019. The pub was forced to close shortly afterwards under Covid restrictions which had a huge effect on the industry across Nottinghamshire.

The team wrote on Facebook on May 21: "After long consideration, we are sad to announce that we will no longer be opening up the new inn. It has been a rough ride for sure and we feel it is best to give it up, we want to thank our customers for welcoming us with open arms. And we hope to shortly see the new inn open again. Thank you again Del, Casey, Danny and of course Skyla "

Locals were sad to see the announcement of the closure of the pub. The advert notes that the pub has a strong local community, bedroom accommodation for someone to live on-site, a skittle alleyway and also a patio area. The traditional-style pub also has space for darts and dominos.

One customer wrote: "Wish you all the best for whatever you do next, look after your family and make memories. Fingers crossed the New Inn survives." Another commented: "You have to do what is best for you. Will miss you. All the best for what the future brings hopefully see you soon."
