Update as person remains in hospital after hit and run

Police have issued an update after three people were rushed to hospital following a hit and run and fight.

Merseyside Police rushed to North Road in St Helens at around 9.30pm on Friday, July 8, following reports of a hit and run which left a woman "lying in North Road". Eyewitnesses reported a large police cordon being put in place, which was still there on Saturday morning.

Forensics were also spotted at the scene as officers worked to carry out their enquires. Merseyside Police confirmed officers spoke to witnesses at the scene and it is believed that prior to the incident a fight had broken out involving a group of people.

A Ford Fiesta is reported to have crashed into a number of people. The vehicle is then believed to have left the scene and was found abandoned a short distance away.

A woman in her 30s and a man in his 40s were both rushed to hospital with head injuries and a woman in her 40s was taken to hospital with back and facial injuries. None of the injuries are believed to be life threatening.

A 20-year-old woman, a 38-year-old woman and a 46-year-old were all arrested on suspicion of affray. Police have now confirmed one has been released on conditional bail, another released under investigation and a third remains in hospital for treatment.

Enquiries are ongoing to identify those involved.

Detective Inspector Lisa Milligan said: “We keen to speak to anyone who was in the North Road area around 9.30pm on Friday and saw or heard anything. This would have been a shocking thing to witness so if you were passing or live nearby and have dashcam or CCTV footage come forward as it may be key to the investigation.”
