Upcycling boom as businesswoman attracts big interest in breathing life into old furniture

An Ayrshire shop owner says she has been bowled over with a surge in popularity of her upcycling business.

Steph Briggs, owner of Girvan-based La Di Da Interiors, reckons interest in her upcycling and upcycling workshops has soared since the pandemic.

That interest is now accelerating further with the cost of living crisis, as people seek to make existing material go further.

Steph says: “We’ve been upcycling and refinishing old furniture for over a decade.

“Initially, we started out of necessity when moving house but it’s now become an integral part of our business.

“Our upcycling workshops surged in popularity over lockdown as people looked to update their homes and learn new skills.

“Suddenly, people had the time to try new things and reflect.

“The interest in upcycling that started in the pandemic has continued to grow as people seek to save money amid the cost of living crisis.

The shop is packed with hand-painted pieces of furniture and home accessories.
