Upcoming scan will determine if Colts WR Michael Pittman needs surgery

On Monday afternoon, Indianapolis Colts’ WR Michael Pittman will undergo a scan to determine whether or not he needs offseason surgery on his back, according to the Indy Star’s Joel Erickson.

Pittman had been navigating a back injury for really the entire season. At one point early on in the year, it was reported that the injury could land Pittman on injured reserve, but he decided to continue to play through it.

For much of the year, Pittman’s status was considered week-to-week and dependent upon how he was feeling. However, he would end up missing only one game.

“Tough son of a (expletive),” said DeForest Buckner when asked about Pittman playing through the injury.

Pittman would go on to say that he started feeling the back pain all the way back in August during the Colts’ joint practice with the Arizona Cardinals. A scan after the Week 3 game against Chicago revealed that he had a fracture.

Pittman would finish the 2023 season catching 69 passes for 808 yards with three touchdowns. The Colts’ final two games of the season were two of Pittman’s best, with him totaled 181 yards on 15 receptions with one score against the New York Giants and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
