Upcoming horror comedy Sting trailer released; giant spider wreaks havoc

Sting is a horror comedy film centered around a girl named Charlotte and her pet spider Sting.

The horror comedy genre is about to get a creepy-crawly addition with the upcoming film Sting. Following the release of its first trailer, viewers are in for a frightfully entertaining experience. This upcoming movie revolves around a little girl named Charlotte, whose name choice pays homage to E. B. White's beloved book or might just be a funny coincidence. Charlotte, a rebellious pre-teen, feels neglected by her parents after the arrival of her new sibling. Despite her father's attempts to bond with her through their comic co-creation, Fang Girl, Charlotte continues to feel isolated.

One stormy night, a mysterious object crashes through the window of Charlotte's family's rundown New York apartment. To her surprise, it turns out to be an egg from which an extraordinary spider emerges. Charlotte affectionately names her newfound companion Sting, and the two of them form an unlikely bond. However, there's a catch - as Charlotte's fascination with Sting grows, so does the spider's size. Inevitably, with its growth comes a ravenous appetite. What initially starts with neighborhood pets as prey soon escalates to much larger targets.

As the situation spirals out of control, Charlotte's family, along with the other residents of the building, find themselves trapped with a colossal and voracious arachnid. The race is on to find a solution, and it falls upon Charlotte to come up with a plan to stop the creature she alone understands.

For those with arachnophobia, Sting couldn't have arrived at a worse time. In addition to this film, another upcoming horror movie called Vermin will use real spiders to terrify audiences. Set in yet another apartment building, Vermin depicts a tormenting swarm of multiple spiders. Meanwhile, fans of the horror classic Arachnophobia can look forward to an upcoming remake from Christopher Landon, the talented director behind Happy Death Day and Freaky.

Starring Alyla Browne, Ryan Corr, Penelope Mitchell, Robyn Nevin, Noni Hazelhurst, and Jermaine Fowler, Sting boasts an impressive ensemble cast. With a bold and unique vision, coupled with a compelling script, this talented team has created more than just a spine-chilling creature feature. Sting promises to be a powerful emotional drama that captures the hearts and souls of its audience.

To bring the nightmarish world of Sting to life, the film relies on the practical effects expertise of Weta Workshop. This award-winning New Zealand-based studio, with five Academy Awards under its belt, delivers mesmerizing visuals. Spearheaded by Creative Director Richard Taylor, whose portfolio includes stellar projects such as Blade Runner 2049, King Kong (2005), and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Weta Workshop ensures that Sting's visuals will be nothing short of captivating.

With StudioCanal handling distribution in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Benelux, and Well Go USA set to release Sting in theaters on April 12, 2024, fans worldwide have much to anticipate.
