There are tons of upcoming DC movies and TV shows to look forward to, especially now that the DCU is in full swing and that we now have a clear release plan for the future.
We're now in DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, and next up is Superman, followed by Peacemaker season 2. DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran also recently revealed a slew of new movies and shows on their way, including a rough six-year plan for the timeline that will work to tell a wider story leading to a big climax (similar to those seen in Marvel's Avenger movies).
There's a Supergirl movie, a Green Lantern show in the works, and the return of the Reeves-verse (which still has The Batman 2) to look forward to. However, Gunn has also stated, via Variety, that there's a new plan to release "two live-action films and one animated film per year, and two live-action and two animated TV series per year." That means a lot more new superhero movies to keep track of, and shows to add to your watch list.
It all may sound daunting, so we've rounded up all of the upcoming DC movies and TV shows in one place so you don't need to spend hours googling. We've also got the lowdown on what happened to the many scrapped DC movies and shows.

Upcoming DC movies
Superman
Release date: July 11, 2025
Previously titled Superman: Legacy, this film, now simply called Superman, is the first movie in the new slate and will be released globally on July 11, 2025. Written and directed by James Gunn, it will focus on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. See a first look at the suit above.
"This is really the start of the DCU," Safran said in a statement, per Deadline. "It’s not an origins story, it focuses on Superman’s balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He’s the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, he’s kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned."
David Corenswet will play Clark Kent, while Rachel Brosnahan is Lois Lane. Meanwhile, three other heroes have been cast: Nathan Fillion will play the Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi will play Mister Terrific, and Isabela Merced will play Hawkgirl. Skyler Gisondo has also joined the line-up as Jimmy Olsen, with Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
Release date: June 26, 2026
As part of Gunn and Safran's new DC slate, we're getting a new look at Supergirl. Based on Tom King's comic book series of the same name, this "science fiction adventure" will introduce a Supergirl that "viewers are not used to seeing."
"We see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he's an infant," Gunn told Variety. "Versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock chip off of Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life."
What we do know is who will be playing the character: House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock has landed the role. We'll be seeing her before then as she's confirmed to appear in Superman.
Clayface
Release date: September 11, 2026
DC is going fully in on Batman, and the upcoming "body-horror" movie about one of his most famous foes is proof of that. Safran and Gunn have confirmed that a Clayface movie is in the works written by Mike Flanagan, and that it will be focusing on Batman's longtime foe. Filming is expected to kick off sometime this summer, and British director James Watkins is in talks to direct the feature. We'll keep you posted as more news heads our way. James Gunn has debunked some key casting details too.
The Batman 2
Release date: October 1, 2027
Just what the follow-up to Matt Reeves' The Batman will focus on is an enigma for now, but a sequel is in the works. Reeves is returning to write and direct the sequel and Robert Pattinson will don the cowl once again, though beyond that, there are no confirmed cast members. Plus, per The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves is meeting with writers and directors to create a range of villain movies, with Professor Pyg, Clayface, and Scarecrow namechecked.
Despite the big shake-up at DC, this film is said to be safe – and Gunn and Reeves have denied claims that Pattinson's Batman would be incorporated into the main series of films. Instead, the films will remain part of their own separate universe, which is now being referred to as DC Elseworlds.
However, we will be waiting a while for it after it was delayed all the way to 2027.
The Brave and the Bold
Release date: TBC
The movie will follow Batman and his son Damian Wayne as Robin, giving us our first new look at the duo since Joel Schumacher's 1997 cult classic that starred George Clooney and Chris O'Donnell in the titular roles. Andy Muschietti will direct.
"It's a strange father and son story about the two of them and based on Grant Morrison's run of the Batman," Gunn explained.
Though casting is yet to be announced, this particular Batman won't be Robert Pattinson's Batman and will have no connection to the Matt Reeves film. There is a writer involved and Gunn has confirmed that Andy Muschietti will be the first one to read a script.
Sgt. Rock
Release date: TBC
Luca Guadagnino is directing a World War Two movie based on Sgt. Rock. The movie is to be scripted by Challengers scribe Justin Kuritzkes, no actors are yet confirmed, but Daniel Craig was rumored for a while. Speaking to Deadline, Safran said: "What we love about Sgt. Rock is the opportunity to tell a story about heroism and conflict in compelling and unique way. Justin really wrote a wonderful screenplay and that’s what catapulted that project to the forefront."
Teen Titans
Release date: TBC
The Teen Titans are also getting a big screen movie from DC Studios. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the project is being written by Ana Nogueira who is behind the script of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Few details are available at the moment about who will star, but this is certainly exciting news for fans of the comics.
Swamp Thing
Release date: TBC
Information on the new Swamp Thing movie is still limited, but it will focus on the origins of the mysterious DC character. From what's been revealed so far about this one, it's expected it will be tonally darker than the other DC projects. James Mangold directs. The latest update is that the ball is in Mangold's court to continue development on the movie.
The Authority
Release date: TBC
Another new upcoming movie from DC Studios is The Authority, which will see WildStorm characters join the DCU. They'll be taking "matters into their own hands to do what they believe is right," per the official synopsis. Gunn has also recently stated that work on this movie has been put on the back burner for now. So, it will likely be some time before we hear any news on it.
Dynamic Duo
Release date: TBC
The Dynamic Duo is an upcoming animated DC movie that is currently in pre-production. The film will see the two Robins who fought alongside Batman (Dick Grayson and Jason Todd) and tell the two's origin stories. Matthew Aldrich is writing the script while Matt Reeves' production company 6th & Idaho is producing it. Not much is known about the movie, but it's being marketed as a starting point for families trying to get into the dark world of Gotham. So expect some light-hearted animated fun here folks! There's been no recent news on this one yet though, so we're not sure how far along this one will be.
Ta-Nehisi Coates' Superman
Release date: TBD
It was widely reported that J. J. Abrams and Black Panther scribe Ta-Nehisi Coates were joining forces to develop a Black Superman movie. In late 2022, Warner Bros. Discovery assured fans that it was still on the cards but we've not heard anything since.
Add in the fact that James Gunn didn't outright mention it in his DCU Chapter One announcement, and the project looks to be a little up in the air. One thing's for certain, though, Henry Cavill won't be signing on as the titular hero.
Upcoming DC TV shows
Peacemaker season 2
Release date: August 2025
The second season of Peacemaker has wrapped filming and will see the return of John Cena's patriotic superhero. According to reports from Deadline, the new season will take place after the events of Superman.
Plenty of cast members have been confirmed too, including Tim Meadows, Frank Grillo set to play Rick Flag, Sr, and returning stars Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, and Steve Agee. Sol Rodríguez and David Denman will also star. We've got a complete Peacemaker season 2 guide if you need to know more.
Lanterns
Release date: 2026
DC Studios has announced a new Green Lantern project as part of its slate of new movies and shows.
As per Variety, DC Studios co-CEOs described "plays a really big role leading us into the main story that we're telling across our film and television." The True Detective-style take on the DC hero focuses on Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) reluctantly mentoring a younger Lantern, John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), and sees the two characters investigating an Earth-bound murder with larger implications. The cast so far also includes Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, and Poorna Jagannathan.
The series has a 2026 release window, and production is now underway, as confirmed by a first-look image.
Waller
Release date: TBC
Waller was originally due to be released before Peacemaker season 2. However, after the Hollywood strikes, these shows were moved back around and it's not yet clear when Waller will hit the screen. However, we expect it to be pretty linked still given that Peacemaker season 1 ended with Leota Adebayo (Orange is the New Black's Danielle Brooks) revealing Amanda Waller's role in Task Force X.
Per Variety, the series will be produced by Doom Patrol creator Jeremy Carver and see Viola Davis reprise the role as the titular character. Gunn called the show "the greatest ever". There's no release date yet.
The show is still in development, but a recent press event from Gunn suggested Waller was one of the projects being put on the backburner.
Blue Beetle spin-off
Release date: TBC
We all thought that Blue Beetle would stay firmly in the old DCEU, however the new timeline is bringing the superhero back with a new animated series. This show will be a continuation of the 2023 film, so it gives you a reason to watch the DC movies in order again as well. Currently not much is known about the new series, however, the show is still in active development. So, we should have more updates soon.
Booster Gold
Release date: TBC
Booster Gold is a hero many may not be familiar with, despite the fact that he's shown up in Smallville and Legends of Tomorrow before. According to the announcement, the show will follow Booster, who's also known as Michael Jon Carter in the comics, as he uses basic technology from the future to help him pretend to be a superhero in the present day. (We're guessing this one will have serious comedy leanings).
In DC's slate announcement, Gunn described Booster Gold as the living embodiment of "Imposter syndrome." Speaking about the series in February 2025, Safran said: "We love Booster Gold. There was a particular showrunner/creator we were waiting on who expressed interest. We waited a really long time; ultimately he fell out of love. We pivoted. It’s still one that’s important to us. It’s moving forward with somebody else."
My Adventures with Green Lantern
Release date: TBC
This animated series will follow the life of teen Jessica Cruz after a Green Lantern Power Ring falls from the sky and chooses her to be its new champion. However, the young Jessica’s new powers come with some baggage as debris from the Lantern's war also comes to Earth, as well as some of their alien enemies. Jake Wyatt is executive producing, and Stephanie Gonzaga is co-executive producing. We’ll keep you posted as we wait for a release date. There haven't been any updates in a while though so this one is TBC.
DC Super Powers
Release date: TBC
DC Super Powers is another animated series that will take place at the Alliance School for Heroes. The show will focus on new students Lightning, Flash, Plastic Man, Aquagirl, Green Lantern, and Terra, who (under the watchful eye of Principal Martian Manhunter) work to increase their powers and to become the next generation of crimefighters. Matt Beans is executive producing, with Michael Chang on board as a supervising producer.
Starfire
Release date: TBC
Starfire will be a new animated series focusing on the origin story of the iconic Teen Titan. The show will follow her adventures after she finds a spaceship on her home planet of Tamaran, that she uses to explore the stars. In the show, we’ll also see “space biker Crush, plant-loving Fern, and the magical Princess Amethyst of Gemworld,” there are also promises of storylines involving saving “Space Dolphins,” surfing technicolor nebulas, and plenty of galactic exploration. Currently, there’s no release date for this one, but we do know that Josie Campbell is executive producing, and Brianne Drouhard is co-executive producing.
Paradise Lost
Release date: TBC
According to Gunn, Paradise Lost is set to be a Game of Thrones-esque series about the Amazons and Wonder Woman's home, Themyscira. While we know next to nothing about the plot, the filmmaker says the story will feature "all the darkness and drama and political intrigue" you can imagine goes on within a society of only women.
"How did this society of women come about? What does it mean? What are their politics like? What are their rules?" he said of its overarching themes. "Who's in charge? What are all the games that they play with each other to get to the top?" No updates on this one in a while, but it is still in development.
Scrapped DC movies and shows: Man of Steel 2 and more
A new Superman movie starring Cavill was reportedly in the works following the character's appearance in Black Adam, but that's no longer happening as the actor is officially finished as Superman. According to an earlier report from The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. was keen to get Cavill back for another solo movie that would essentially be Man of Steel 2, and prolific DC producer Charles Roven was already onboard, and the search was on for writers. Cavill later teased his return on Instagram.
The Flash director Andy Muschietti was even said to be interested in helming the project, with a tone similar to Richard Donner's Superman. A slightly conflicting report from Deadline indicated that the studio did hear a pitch from Roven and an unknown writer, but wasn't keen on it, instead opting to wait for Gunn and Safran's plans. Now they have taken hold of the DC universe, Man of Steel 2 is dead.
We've also seen Dwayne Johnson reveal that Black Adam 2 won't be happening anytime soon. The actor issued a statement saying he met with Gunn and Safran and was informed that Black Adam was not a part of their DC plans, but he could perhaps be back one day in the multiverse. The hierarchy of power in the DC universe has changed – just not in Johnson's favor.
It also looks like Wonder Woman 3 will no longer be happening, with Gadot reportedly out as the hero. That's despite Gadot indicating she would return. It was previously reported that a Patty Jenkins-directed Wonder Woman 3 would not be moving forward, which would have seen Lynda Carter return. Jenkins issued a statement on the situation confirming that her vision for Wonder Woman 3 was not being made.
The Reeves-verse has also seen a shake-up, with the Arkham Asylum TV show no longer moving forward.
