Lucknow: After a long legal and political tussle, the bugle has sounded for the municipal elections in Uttar Pradesh. The State Election Commission on Sunday announced to hold urban local body polls in the state in two phases, on May 4 and 11. The counting of votes will be done on May 13.
Now the State Election Commission has issued orders to all the District Magistrates, Senior Superintendents of Police including SPs and all the Police Commissioners of UP to remain in their respective districts during polling schedule.
The commission has also made it clear that the UP Police will ensure that the local body elections are conducted in a peaceful manner under its strict supervision. Two lakh employees of the state government have been deployed to conduct these elections.
Dynamite News correspondent reports, the Commission has clearly stated that the borders of the district where the civic body elections will be held, will be sealed 48 hours before the polling day. Before voting, people coming from outside districts will have to leave the district where voting is taking place. The police has been asked to keep a close watch on criminal elements and those trying to vitiate the situation.
Besides, the Election Commission has also instructed the administration that the use of loudspekers for public meetings or election compaign must not be allowed without prior permission. Strict action will be taken against the violators.
