Until Dawn is getting a live-action movie courtesy of Sony's Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions and brings back Dr. Hill voice actor Peter Stormare to reprise his role from the video games.

The upcoming film will feature Maia Mitchell, Belmont Cameli, and Stormare in lead roles. They will join Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo, and Odessa A'zion on the call for the production, which will start shooting in mid-August.

Until Dawn Reveals New Casting

The director for the Until Dawn movie is David F. Sandberg, who last directed Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The new project marks his return to the horror genre and reunites him with his Annabelle: Creation writer-producer Gary Dauberman.

The latter is also known for writing the most recent draft of the script and is producing under his Coin Operated banner with Mia Maniscalco, alongside Sandberg and his Mangata partner Lotta Losten, according to HollywoodReporter.

Until Dawn was first released in 2015 and is an interactive horror video game that follows the story of eight friends and frenemies who were brought together at a remote mountain retreat.

The game puts them in live-or-die scenarios with a mysterious killer and cannibalistic Wendigos.

They will have to fight through their fears if they have any hope of making it through the night alive. For now, it's still unclear how the live-action movie adaptation will tackle the video game's mechanics of different paths and scenarios based on players' decisions.

However, what we know so far is that the upcoming film has been described as an R-rated and terrifying love letter to the horror genre. Despite the reveal of the casting, it is still unknown who Mitchell and Cameli will play.

The Return of Dr. Hill

Stormare's Dr. Hill is a psychiatrist and is a character who appeared throughout the original game in various segments. These are where players make decisions that influence the overall experience, said IGN.

For now, it is unclear if the actor's part will see him periodically showing up in order to analyze the story's characters similar to what he has done before.

The live-action film was first announced earlier this year and will bring Supermassive Games and PlayStation's unique adventure horror to the big screen.

Stormare's casting as Dr. Hill marks a positive sign for fans of the franchise that the studios are interested in giving the best possible acting to the movie.

The decision also provides that there is still some story thread that connects the film and its source work, according to GamesRadar.
