A woman out for a walk in the snow with her dog was kicked in the head by a moose after it charged at her from behind.
Tracy Hansen usually takes her dog Gunner along the same path each night, and on February 16 they had seen a moose on the route.
In her corner of the world - the Alaskan city of Anchorage, US - it's not too rare to stumble across a moose, but the encounter was going to get a lot closer.
As she walked on her way, the moose was seen charging along the path. As it got to Tracy, it reared up and kicked her in the head.
After knocking the unsuspecting woman down, the moose carried on charging a few more metres before coming to a stop.
Ms Hansen told local Alaska's News Source: “I thought someone had not been paying attention and hit me with a bike or something.
“I had put my hands up to my head, and I’m like, ‘I’m bleeding’.”
The alarming incident was caught on camera by passerby Kate Timmons.
She was driving past and saw the moose running. She took out her phone to film as the moose closed in on Ms Hansen and her dog.
Ms Timmons tried to alert the soon-to-be-victim of the moose's charge, shouting 'Hey! Hey! Hey! Watch out!' but it was too late.
After Ms Hansen had been knocked to the floor, Ms Timmons carried on shouting trying to scare off the moose. They also rushed to help the stricken woman.
Timmons said: “My husband was able to pull her over the snow bank, so we could get her in the truck with her dog and kind of get her out of the way.
“It definitely seemed unprovoked from our standpoint and it happened so fast it was just like, a matter of getting her out of the situation, getting her help, making sure, you know my big thing was that she didn’t have a head trauma, that there wasn’t a bleed or something.”
The witness was worried about what could have happened if they hadn't been passing.
The snow banks were high at that point, and motorists wouldn't have been able to see anyone lying on the ground.
Ms Hansen needed staples in her head and has bruising all over.
Despite that, she has vowed to carry on the routine with dog Gunner, taking that same path.
She added: “We’ll be back on our normal walks. The moose won’t stop that.”
