As night fell, heavy rain pelted Newcastle and surrounds on Monday October 14.
Despite bouts of summer-like temperatures in early October, cold and wet weather has shrouded the coast in dark skies.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) had forecast a maximum of 21 degrees for the rest of Tuesday, October 15, with a 60 per cent chance of ongoing rain.
Into Wednesday, October 16, temperatures were likely to remain cool at a minimum of 13 degrees and a maximum of 19, with a very high chance of rain, most likely in the morning and afternoon.
BoM meteorologist Belinda House said today and tomorrow were looking reasonably similar right across the Hunter.
"You'd be looking at showers closer to the coast and chances of thunderstorms more likely through the Upper Hunter," Ms House said.
Scone is forecast to expect a minimum of eight degrees and a maximum of 19 degrees with a 90 per cent chance of two to 20 millimetres of rain on Wednesday.
Ms House said the level of rain predicted in Newcastle for tomorrow would likely lessen to a light falls after the updated 4pm forecast.
"It's noticeably going to warm back up on Thursday and Friday, it is going to start to become a bit more humid and we are going to see the risk of showers and thunderstorms continue," she said.
On Thursday, October 17, temperatures may shoot back up to 29 degrees with a medium chance of showers.
As the weekend rolls around, Ms House said a change to drier south-westerly winds would flush out the chance of storms and rains.
"We are in an unsettled period, so keep across the forecast updates each day just to see where the storms are more likely," she said.
