Unseen Queen photo shows late Monarch's 'scribbled' handwriting

A previously unseen picture that shows the Queen 's 'scribbled' handwriting has been shared following her death. Jenny Hanley, a former Bond girl and radio presenter, is the granddaughter of Lisa and Jimmy Sheridan who run Studio Lisa and photographed the royal family for three generations.

The couple were the first to take casual photos of the Royal Family, and over 30 years recorded 13 different sittings, including their first shoot in 1936, with Princess Elizabeth, aged 10, Princess Margaret and their parents, The Duke and Duchess of York. Now, they've shared a previously unseen image of the Queen - on which she's written notes in her unique handwriting.

Her handwriting has been described as 'scribbled' (Boom Radio)

What do you think of the unseen photograph? Let us know in the comments...

Jenny, who played 'the Irish girl' in On Her Majesty's Secret Service alongside George Lazenby, has been sharing some of the stories told to her about the royal family by her grandparents and her mother on her show on Boom Radio.

She said: "Last Saturday would have been my mother's birthday so I, like so many other people whether monarchists or not, shall be unashamedly sharing reminiscences both personal and historical - plus, of course, playing songs to cheer us up and to keep us going."

Jenny has now shared a previously unpublished photograph of Princess Elizabeth wearing a Girlguiding uniform, which includes notes the then princess, who joined the Guides in 1937, made for Jenny’s grandmother Lisa Sheridan who took the photo in 1942.

Jenny explains: "On my show, I'm going to be talking about a wonderful photograph of Her Majesty as a Girl Guide.

"My grandmother Lisa Sheridan had taken the photograph, and she sent it to the palace and wrote that because it was in black and white, 'could somebody please tell me what the colour of the badges were that the princess was wearing’.

"And a letter came back along with the photo with notations on it from Windsor Castle from Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret's governess Marion Crawford, nicknamed Crawfie by the princesses, saying 'enclosed are the Guide studies. I hope you will be able to make out the scribbles on them. Princess Elizabeth wrote them herself', so it's very much the type of thing a nanny would write!

"I'm very lucky to have this history."

Jenny said that her grandparents were awarded two Royal Warrants, one from Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, and one from the late Queen Elizabeth II.

She added: "My grandmother's autobiography was called From Cabbages To Kings. And it's called that because after they came to this country as refugees - Lisa was of German descent, and my grandfather was fleeing the Russian Revolution - they would practice photography by taking pictures of cabbages as they had lots of layers to focus on.

"My grandmother had a lovely sense of humour, which I think is why she got on so well with the Duke and Duchess when they first started taking photos of the royal family.

"They were the first to do the relaxed family photographs of the royal family, and that set the precedent for the photos we see today.

"But they were always done with respect. The photographs were offered to the palace and the Duke and Duchess, and then the Queen, would look at them and either give permission or not.

"And then went on to be By Appointment to Her Majesty the Queen and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. They had their 'by appointment' badges outside their house in Welwyn Garden City. It was a huge honour."

You can listen to Jenny's show on Boom Radio here, on Saturdays between 2pm-4pm.
