Joelinton has now served the first game of a two-match suspension which will see him sidelined at Newcastle United for almost a month. The former number nine picked up the ban after being shown his 10th yellow card of the season in the defeat at Manchester City.
Eddie Howe admitted he was 'desperately disappointed' to lose Joelinton to suspension, but Newcastle rallied in his absence to earn a crucial victory over Wolves on Sunday. The Magpies head coach made five changes to the starting eleven, and Miguel Almiron was introduced as a substitute to score a vital late winner.
Newcastle stars did their now customary lap of the St James' Park turf to applaud supporters, and were welcomed back into the dressing room by their suspended team-mate. Heartwarming footage shared by the club on social media in the wake of the 2-1 win firstly shows Matt Ritchie expressing his delight at seeing Joelinton.

The former number nine then greets Jacob Murphy, who was handed a rare start, and Callum Wilson who was brought on from the bench alongside matchwinner Almiron. Joelinton steadily congratulates his team-mates and the coaching staff until his Brazilian compatriot Bruno Guimaraes, who can not hide his delight and screams 'Vamos!' after the Magpies registered only their second top-flight win of 2023.
Joelinton will serve the second match of his suspension as Newcastle aim to register back-to-back wins with a televised Friday night encounter at Nottingham Forest. The international break means the 26-year-old will not be eligible to return in black-and-white until the Magpies seek revenge against Manchester United at St James' Park on April 2.
