Unseen footage shows ex-Man United star smash VAR monitor in fit of rage after Uruguay World Cup exit

Uruguay's players have come in for some scrutiny after a number of controversial incidents during their World Cup game against Ghana.

The Uruguayans needed a convincing win against Ghana to pip South Korea to second spot in Group H, however they could muster only a 2-0 win against the African side. South Korea's slender 2-1 triumph over Portugal was enough to see them through.

During Uruguay's clash with Ghana, though, there were a number of talking points. Before the game, for example, Luis Suarez said he was not sorry for his deliberate handball against the Ghanaians in the 2010 World Cup quarter-final, which stopped a definite goal and got the former Liverpool striker sent off. Ghana, though, missed the resultant spot kick and the South American side went through.

On Friday, Suarez was once again in the spotlight as he raged at referee Daniel Siebert after VAR awarded Ghana a penalty following goalkeeper Sergio Rochet's challenge on Mohammed Kudus.

But that was just the beginning of the chaos, as Ghana's players surrounded the penalty spot, pre-empting foul play from the Uruguayans. And they were right to do so, it seems, as Liverpool striker Darwin Núñez appeared to try and scuff up the penalty spot. He was booked by Siebert for his actions.

After the game, when Uruguay had learned their fate and would not be progressing out of the group stage, former Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani let his anger be known to the pitchside VAR television monitor.

As a fan at the game filmed the players trudging back down the tunnel, Cavani takes a look at the screen and launches a right fist at it, knocking it clean to the ground as officials watched in shock.
