Unrivaled, the 3-on-3 basketball league, has finalized its team rosters ahead of the upcoming season. The league organized the players into six pods based on positions - wings, guards, and forwards. The six coaches then conducted a draft to form teams with the goal of ensuring competitive balance.
A unique twist in the drafting process was that the coaches were unaware of which team they would be coaching until after the squads were selected. Co-founders Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier were placed on separate teams for the upcoming season.
Team Mist, led by Breanna Stewart, features notable players such as Jewell Loyd, Courtney Vandersloot, Dijonai Carrington, Rickea Jackson, and Aaliyah Edwards. On the other hand, Napheesa Collier's Lunar Owls squad includes Skylar Diggins-Smith, Natasha Cloud, Allisha Gray, Shakira Austin, and two wild card players, with one spot potentially going to WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark.
Another team, Phantom, comprises Jackie Young, Marina Mabrey, Tiffany Hayes, Satou Sabally, and Brittney Griner. Team Vinyl consists of Arike Ogunbowale, Rhyne Howard, Jordin Canada, Rae Burrell, Dearica Hamby, and Aliyah Boston. Team Rose features Chelsea Gray, Kahleah Copper, Brittney Sykes, Lexie Hull, Angel Reese, and Azura Stevens.
Team Laces rounds out the roster with Kelsey Plum, Courtney Williams, Kayla McBride, Kate Martin, Alyssa Thomas, and Stefanie Dolson. The league is set to kick off on January 17 in Miami, with a total salary pool exceeding $8 million for the 36 players. Additionally, players will receive equity in the league.
Unrivaled recently announced a partnership with TNT and its sports platforms to broadcast over 45 games throughout the season. Viewers can catch matchups three nights a week, with games airing on TNT on Mondays and Fridays, and on truTV on Saturdays.
