A man who is wanted by police following the murder of Michelle Hanson is a University of Sunderland student.
Michelle Hanson was found dead at a home in Brady Street in Sunderland on December 3 and a murder investigation was subsequently launched. A Northumbria Police investigation has since been launched and the force is attempting to trace suspect Alexander Carr following the discovery of the 47-year-old's body.
As inquiries continue, it has been confirmed that 32-year-old Carr is a student at the University of Sunderland, with fellow classmates receiving an email offering support services. An email that was sent to students and seen by The Chronicle, states: "You may be aware of press reports in recent days involving Alexander Carr, a student at the University.

"The University is aware of the current situation and is working closely to assist Northumbria Police in their investigations. A message has been sent to Alexander Carr's classmates in order to offer any support they may need during this time. Our first concern is always for the wellbeing of our students and staff, so please contact wellbeing services to access support if you have any concerns."
The email added: "In the unlikely event anyone is contacted by Alexander, or you have information about his whereabouts, please contact Northumbria Police immediately by ringing 999 quoting reference NP-20221208-0413. The Police consider Alexander Carr to be potentially dangerous and members of the public are urged not approach him and call the police immediately.
"There is currently a £10,000 Crimestoppers reward for information leading to his arrest. Police are reminding the public that sheltering him is a criminal offence. The University security team are also available to provide advice and support."
Officers have identified Carr as a key individual who they urgently want to speak to and a new image was released on Friday showing him wearing a Calvin Klein baseball cap. The force have urged that members of the public should not approach him, but instead alert officers immediately if they have seen him or know of his whereabouts.
Earlier this week, Michelle's daughter Shannon Brown, 29, appeared on camera to pay tribute to her mam, while also appealing for anyone who may have any information which could assist the investigation to come forward.
Speaking on video, she said: "As a family, we are all devastated by what has happened. My mam was a caring, kind and loving person. She would never hurt anyone, even if someone did something to hurt her, she would forgive them because she always saw the good in people.
"She always got on with things and never gave up. It’s heart-breaking for us as a family to know we will never see her again. She will be missed by all of us. Her granddaughter turns two in a couple of weeks and it is devastating that she will not get the chance to get to know her nana."
She added: "Our lives will never be the same again. All we want now is justice for our mam. Please, if you have any information which can help the police with their investigation, don’t hesitate to get in touch with them. Any little piece of information could help. Our mam deserves justice. Thank you."
