Recent reports of a man accused of sexually assaulting and robbing a woman on the University of Houston (UH) campus have sparked protests among students. The suspect, Eric Latroy Brown, 40, faces charges of aggravated assault and aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon after an incident in a parking garage on Feb. 7.
Following Brown's arrest, concerns arose when it was discovered that he had been released from custody, prompting police to issue a new warrant for his arrest. This development has raised questions about the handling of the case by authorities.
In response to the campus crime wave, UH Police Department has increased security measures, with four officers now assigned to 24/7 patrols at the Welcome Center Garage. The university is also working on developing a comprehensive safety plan to address immediate and long-term security strategies.

Despite Brown's release, UH officials are actively pursuing the case and collaborating with law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served. The university's CARE team is providing support to the victims of the recent crimes.
Students have voiced their concerns through protests, demanding enhanced security protections on campus. UH has responded by significantly boosting security personnel and patrols across campus, doubling the number of security officers on duty 24/7 and stationing additional officers at key locations.
With an increase in reported incidents this month compared to last year, UH is urging anyone with information about the recent crimes to contact UHPD. The university remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its students and staff amidst these challenging circumstances.
