A 24-year-old doctoral student at the University of Georgia recently testified in court about a harrowing experience she faced in her own apartment. The incident occurred on February 22 of this year, the same day Laken Riley tragically lost her life.
According to the student's testimony, she was showering in her one-bedroom apartment when she heard someone attempting to open her front door. Upon investigating through the peephole, she spotted an individual dressed in all black - hood, hat, jacket, and gloves - whose face remained obscured. When she inquired about the person's identity, they quickly ducked out of sight.
Feeling alarmed, the student reached for her phone to call for help, only to find the same individual trying to peer into her living room through a window. Promptly contacting 911, she reported the unsettling incident, leading to a response from two University of Georgia police officers who arrived to take her statement.
Officer Jonathan Simon from the University of Georgia Police Department, who was among the responders, noted that the student appeared visibly shaken by the ordeal. The testimony provided a chilling account of the intrusion and the fear it instilled in the young student.
