The University of Florida has announced that men's basketball coach Todd Golden has been cleared of allegations of sexual exploitation, sexual harassment, and stalking following a four-month Title IX investigation. The investigation concluded with no evidence found to support the claims, and it was closed amidst the Gators' successful season, where they have won 18 of their first 20 games.
The university emphasized its commitment to upholding due process for all parties involved in such matters. The Title IX office conducted a thorough investigation, including numerous interviews, and found no violations of Title IX by Todd Golden.
Golden had refrained from directly addressing the allegations during the investigation, citing respect for the process. He had also expressed frustration over the lack of confidentiality and privacy in Title IX proceedings. The complaint against Golden included accusations of sending explicit photos and videos, making unwanted advances on social media, and requesting sexual favors.
Florida outsourced its Title IX investigations to Grand River Solutions, a private firm, in 2023. Todd Golden, 39, had signed a contract extension last year with a significant raise, extending his tenure through the 2029-30 season. The contract explicitly prohibits any romantic or sexual relationships between coaches and individuals under their supervision.
Meanwhile, an ongoing Title IX case involves assistant coach Taurean Green, who is accused of inappropriate behavior towards an athletic department employee. The employee came forward after being approached by investigators working on Golden's case, raising concerns about a potential pattern of behavior within the basketball program.
Green, a former NCAA champion with the Gators, joined the coaching staff in 2022. The university reserves the right to take disciplinary action against any employee whose actions reflect negatively on the athletic department or the institution.
The University of Florida remains committed to upholding its values and ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all individuals associated with its athletic programs.
