A University of Albany student, Alexa Kropf, is currently in a coma after being struck by an illegal dirt bike in Albany, New York. The incident occurred on April 27 just after midnight, leaving Alexa with severe injuries that required multiple surgeries. She has undergone two brain surgeries to address bleeding and swelling, as well as treatment for two broken bones in her lower right leg, fractures in her pelvis, five broken ribs, and bruised lungs.

Despite the extent of her injuries, Alexa is showing small signs of improvement this week. Her father, Jim Kropf, described her as a loving, responsible, and hard-working individual who is a best friend to her younger sister and a role model for her younger brother.

The suspect, described as a male, was driving the illegal dirt bike at a high rate of speed on the 400 block of Hudson Avenue when he struck Alexa. The impact caused her to be thrown in the air and land several feet away from the initial collision. Albany police are actively searching for the suspect, who fled the scene after the incident.

Alexa's friends, who were with her that night, immediately called for help and stayed by her side until medical assistance arrived. She was rushed to Albany Medical Center Hospital in critical condition, where she continues to receive care from the medical staff.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Alexa's recovery, and the community has rallied around her family during this difficult time. The Albany County Sheriff's Department conducted an illegal dirt bike detail in response to the incident, seizing multiple bikes and issuing traffic violations.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the hit-and-run to come forward and assist in the investigation. Tips can be provided to the Albany Police Traffic and Safety Division or anonymously through Capital Region Crime Stoppers.
