Universal's Abigail Receives Strong Critical Acclaim For Modern Twist

Universal Pictures Production House,

Universal's latest addition to their alternative solution to the defunct Dark Universe, Abigail, has garnered positive reviews from critics, surpassing the reception of last year's Renfield. The film, part of Universal's reimagining of classic monsters in contemporary settings, has breathed new life into the studio's monster universe.

Directed by the acclaimed filmmaking collective Radio Silence, known for their work on the Scream franchise and Ready or Not, Abigail offers a modern take on Dracula's Daughter. The movie features a talented cast including Alisha Weir, Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, the late Angus Cloud, and Giancarlo Esposito, delivering a compelling and gory tale.

With a solid Rotten Tomatoes score of 84%, Abigail continues Radio Silence's streak of successful films, contrasting the lukewarm reception of Renfield. The filmmakers have established themselves as masters of horror, consistently resonating with both audiences and critics.

Radio Silence's upcoming projects include the Apple TV+ film Fountain of Youth and a remake of John Carpenter's Escape from New York, showcasing their versatility and potential for future success.

Universal's monster revival will progress with The Wolf Man, featuring Christopher Abbott in the lead role under the direction of Leigh Whannell. The studio is also considering sequels and new adaptations of classic monster tales, hinting at a promising future for their monster universe.

Abigail is set to hit cinemas on April 19, offering audiences a fresh and thrilling take on classic monster lore.
