Universal Credit payments will increase this year, with new monthly amounts kicking in from April.
April marks the beginning of the 2023/24 financial year, with most Universal Credit claimants set to see their payments increase by 10.1 per cent.
Those on low incomes as well as those who are unemployed and people unable to work can apply for Universal Credit, with payments being issued monthly. The new rates kick in from Saturday April 1, 2023, reports Chronicle Live.

Universal Credit rates from April 2023
Standard allowance
The rates for standard Universal Credit monthly payments will increase from £261.31 to £292.11 for single claimants under the age of 25. The rate will increase from £334.91 to £368.74 for those over 25.
Couples in the same household - classed as joint claimants - will receive £458.51 per month if they are under 25, increased from £416.45. Joint claimants will get £578.82 if at least one of them is over 25 - increased from £525.72.
Children - extra amounts for first and second children
Claimants with kids will see there extra-payments increased from April.
First-child payments to parents with children born before April 6, 2017 will increase from £290 to £315, with payments for children born after April 2017 and second child/additional children increasing to £269.58 from £255.58 per month
Parents with disabled children can also get additional payments, with rates to from £132.89 to £145.31, increasing to £456.89 from £414.88 for claimants who are parents of severely disabled children.
If you have a disability or health condition
Claimants with a disability or health conditions will see their rates rise. Those eligible for the Limited Capability for Work benefit will see payments increase from £132.89 to £146.31.
The Limited Capability for Work and Work-Related Activity amount will rise from £354.28 to £390.06
Carers
Carers who look after someone for 35 hours per week will see rates increase to £185.86 from £168.81
