Unity theatre to showcase two week programme of Ukrainian talent

The Unity theatre is set to transform into a Ukrainian hub of culture for two weeks as part of the city's EuroFestival celebrations.

Located on Hope Place, the theatre will host the aptly titled A Place of Hope, a free-to-access programme celebrating the best of Ukrainian stories and talent.

Created in partnership with award-winning Ukrainian theatre makers Yurii Radionov and Shorena Shoniia, the programme includes their highly acclaimed theatre production UKRLAND: Stories from Ukraine and the world premiere of Maria, a theatre retelling of Ulas Samchuk’s 1934 novel marking the 90th anniversary of Holodomor - the starvation of millions of Ukrainians in 1932-33 as a result of Soviet farming policies.

There will also be a night of Ukrainian poetry, panel discussions, creative workshops, a walking trail from Open Eye Gallery and extended exhibition from Kyiv photographer Anton Shebetko on the queer history of Ukraine. There is also the opportunity to come together for Hope Table – a unique dining experience building community and exchanging cultures.

Films of each event will be available globally through Unity Online this summer to ensure the legacy of Liverpool’s bond with, and celebration of, Ukraine endures.

You can find tickets for the A Place of Hope programmes here.
