Career

Thompson was appointed as the CEO of UnitedHealthcare in 2021, having been with the company since 2004. Prior to his role as CEO, he led the company's government programs business, overseeing Medicare and retirement operations. UnitedHealthcare is a key subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group, the largest insurance company in the United States.

A lawsuit filed by the Hollywood Firefighters' Pension Fund accused Thompson and other executives of inflating UnitedHealth Group's stock by withholding information about a Justice Department investigation. The lawsuit claimed that Thompson sold a significant portion of his shares before the investigation became public, resulting in substantial profits.
