United Utilities has issued a warning to all customers as the north west has faced freezing weather conditions this week.
Because of the extremely cold temperatures, a number of people have experienced no or reduced water pressure, due to frozen pipes in their homes. And as the weather it set to warm up over the weekend, frozen pipes will begin to thaw.
United Utilities warns this could cause leaks and is urging customers to take steps to be prepared in case this happens to them.

In an email to customers, the water supply company has listed seven things people can do as the weather turns milder.
- As the temperature rises, check your pipes in any cold places such as the loft or garage - can you spot any water dripping from the pipe?
- Find your stop tap, which is usually under the kitchen sink and turn it clockwise to turn off the water.
- Turn off your heating, open all your taps to drain the system quickly.
- Soak up any escaping water with towels.
- Check with your home insurance company to see if you’re covered for leaks and bursts or call a plumber.
- If you need to find a plumber in your area visit watersafe.org.uk
- If water has leaked near your electrics switch them off at the mains.
United Utilities is also asking people to "please think about your family, friends or any vulnerable neighbours and share this information with them too". More help and advice for if you have a frozen or burst pipe can be found here.
