Over the past year multiple airlines have increased the number of flights they plan to run between the U.S. and Canada.
Air Canada (ACDVF) will add more frequencies between Toronto and Indianapolis, Boston, Tampa and Dallas-Fort Worth. The flights will run daily in 2025.
Delta (DAL) recently restarted a retired flight to Halifax, Nova Scotia, from New York's LaGuardia Airport (LGA).

While most of the routes have focused on the East Coast of the country, United Airlines (UAL) is restarting a flight between Houston and Edmonton, Alberta.

The route, which was retired in 2020 due to lack of need during the Covid-19 pandemic, is being brought back beginning in May. It'll run four times a week to Edmonton International Airport (YEG) during the summer and daily by the winter.
While neither of these cities is a major holiday destination, demand for travel is there since the cities are oil industry hubs in their respective countries. In addition, there's a regular flow of Canadians passing through Houston on the way to Florida and farther-away sunny destinations.
United has recently pushed to make George W. Bush International Airport (IAH) in Houston a transfer hub for flights going to Latin America. At the start of October, the airline announced a new route between the city and Mexico's Puerto Escondido while also starting a new flight to the Colombian city of Medellín last month.

Houston-Edmonton a 'vital link': Houston airport exec
"This new nonstop connection between Houston and Edmonton bridges two dynamic regions and strengthens the bonds between our communities," Houston Airports Director of Aviation Jim Szczesniak said in a statement.
"[As] a global gateway to Latin America and beyond, Houston is proud to serve as a vital link that connects these two corners of the world, fostering growth, innovation and shared experiences."
United already runs routes from Houston to the larger Alberta city of Calgary while also recently committing to starting a new route to Edmonton from Chicago three times a week.
"The long-anticipated route will help enhance economic ties and offer more convenient options for business and leisure travelers," Houston Airports said in a statement.
Demand for travel to Canada from U.S. residents has been on the increase over the past year. Recent Canadian government data show the 2.1 million U.S. visitors came to the country for tourism in May 2024, a 13% increase from year-earlier period.
In particular the numbers of Americans going to Canada for short visits have increased. Travel platform Kayak recently identified Montreal among the North American destinations seeing the biggest interest for late 2024 and early 2025.
The reelection of Donald Trump as U.S. president has also prompted a spike in social-media posts from Americans who say they want to move to Canada. Statistics show that few followed through with such a plan when Trump was elected in 2016.
