A visiting United States marine will face court in June charged with indecent assault, after an alleged incident at a bar outside of Darwin.
Northern Territory Police said a 21-year-old man had been issued a notice to appear on Tuesday, following the alleged incident in Palmerston on April 30.
Around 2,000 United States marines are currently based in Darwin, as part of an annual training deployment which began in 2012.
A spokesman for the Marine Rotational Force-Darwin (MRF-D) told the ABC: "We are working diligently to determine the facts in this situation, and are complying with all orders, policies, and agencies involved".
It is unclear if the marine has been stood down over the allegations.
Visiting US marines will be stationed in the Top End until the end of the dry season, or around October, as they take part in training activities with the Australian Defence Force and other visiting countries.
Around 2,200 US personnel have been deployed to Darwin for the 2022 rotation, including, for the first time, 250 US Army soldiers.
The accused marine will face the Darwin Local Court on June 16.
