United Airlines Is Adding More Routes Soon -- Here's Where

The demand for travel continues to rebound the further we get from the record lows of 2020.

Now, United Airlines has announced that it plans to add more routes and more flights this summer, in order to meet what it terms "soaring overseas travel demand."

United (UAL) will be serving 114 international cities this summer. That will include nearly 25 new routes and will represent an expansion of 25% compared with last year.

The company has disclosed that international bookings were up 15% last month, compared with the same period in 2022. The Economist Intelligence has predicted that “global tourism arrivals will increase by 30% in 2023, following growth of 60% in 2022, but will remain below pre-pandemic levels.”

Where Will United Be Flying To?

United will add new flights to Malaga, Dubai, and Stockholm,, according to a statement. It will have close to two dozen daily flights to London's Heathrow Airport.

Additionally United will add flights to Rome, Paris, Barcelona, Berlin, Shannon, Edinburgh, Australia and Naples.

There will be twice daily flights from San Francisco to Seoul, service from San Francisco to Hong Kong and 10 daily transpacific flights to Tokyo-Haneda, Tokyo-Narita and Osaka.

Though costs continue to soar, due to high demand and an overall lack of supply owing to the pilot shortage, it seems people are willing to shell out to get away.

Get Those Passport Applications In

If you want to go overseas, you need to get your passport ready. If you need to get a new one, just know that the State Department announced that its experiencing "unprecedented demand,” and it could take more than four months to receive a passport, as the agency is receiving roughly 500,000 passport applications a week – a 30% to 40% increase from last year.

Also, if you want to breeze through customs on your way home, you can now finish the interview for your Global Entry traveler program, which expedites your return from international flights, at a number of participating airports.
