Plans for a unique oil rig-inspired theme park have been announced for off the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund last week unveiled plans for “The Rig”, a 150,000 square meter fortress in the Arabian Gulf.
The mammoth offshore oil-inspired tourism project will provide hospitality, as well as adventure and aquatic sporting experiences.

Three hotels, world-class restaurants, helipads, and a “range of adventurous activities” including “extreme sports” are also promised in the plans.
There will be room for 50 spaces for boats to park up at the rig, 800 rooms for guests to stay in, and no shortage of choice with 11 restaurants to choose from.
In a promotional video shared by the Public Investment Fund on Twitter, guests can be seen riding roller coasters, go-karting, sliding down massive water slides, bungee jumping, and diving.
To ensure the sustainable preservation of the environment within the project’s vicinity, the project will follow leading global standards and best practices, further supporting the Kingdom’s broader efforts to protect the environment.#PIF #THERIGsa pic.twitter.com/3ZCJcrTTwO

The project is part of the Public Investment Fund’s strategy to further strengthen Saudi Arabia’s international entertainment and tourism offering.
It’s hoped that the attraction will entice both international and domestic tourists.
Where exactly in the Arabian Gulf the rig will be located is still under wraps.
Although no target launch date has been announced, the project is part of the Public Investment Fund’s 2021 to 2025 strategy towards further diversifying their economy and relying less on oil.
Will you make the trip once it’s built? While we wait for it to be built, France’s wine theme park might keep you occupied.
