A local bakery is set to open in one of Liverpool’s most exciting cultural hotspots.
Bakesale started as a micro bakery throughout lockdown while Jess Gartland was furloughed from her job as a sous chef. Jess had not long returned from working at Hart Bageri, a famous bakery in Copenhagen.
She decided to make a small menu of baked goods and post it on Instagram. Jess’ creations include a deep fried lasagne sandwich, charred greens and sweet potato focaccia and a lemon meringue slice.

Bakesale soon gained traction and began to supply local coffee shops and farmer’s markets. Jess was able to leave her job and concentrate on Bakesale full time, leading to pop ups at independent cafes such as the much loved Chapters Of Us and Coffi. Bakesale was most recently based at Sotto on Wood Street.
After Bakesale’s residency at Sotto came to an end, Jess was on the lookout for her next move. She has found the perfect partner in Arts Bar, a live music and cultural venue with food and drink with sites on Hope Street and in the Baltic Triangle.
Bakesale will be based at Arts Bar Baltic from next week, serving breakfast, lunch and baked goods. Jess said: “A while back I was approached by the guys at Arts Bar Hope Street who had just acquired a new site and asked if I’d be up for working with them, unfortunately our schedules just didn’t work out at the time but we kept in touch.
She added: “Amazingly I began to look for another venue at the same time they needed someone to head up their kitchen. So it worked out perfectly for both of us.
“I’m really looking forward to being back in the Baltic area again, and excited to feed customers old and new. Arts Bar Baltic has that laid back vibe that I love. Everyone is welcome, you’re greeted with the biggest smile and made to feel at home.”
Commenting on the partnership, Ben Cosgrove, Director of Arts Bar Baltic, said: "We are thrilled to partner with Bakesale Liverpool. Even before we opened, we knew Jess and her extraordinary talents were a perfect match for us.
He added: “The food that Bakesale produces is truly incredible, and it helps Jess is deeply missed in the Baltic area. We couldn't be more excited!" Bakesale will be based at Arts Bar Baltic on Parliament Street from Monday May 22.
