Uniqlo launches new tees for peace

Last June, Uniqlo launched its Peace For All project involving well-known figures each of whom designed a UT T-shirt that embodies their individual call for peace.

Now, tomorrow, a new collection of five graphic T-shirts priced at 590 baht will be available at Uniqlo stores and online.

Among new designs is a blue T-shirt featuring Dick Bruna's little girl bunny Miffy standing atop our planet.

Roger Federer, meanwhile, conveys the message that both tennis and peace start with Love, the letter O replaced by a tennis ball in the white T-shirt's graphic design. The tennis legend hopes the simple design will serve to remind everyone how important it is to respect each other.

Magnum Photos president Cristina de Middel often uses symbolism in her work. For this project, she wanted to create an image representing the "right to peace" and what fighting for peace really means. Within a white T-shirt and against a cloud-studded blue sky, images of a fist and dove symbolise her concept.

Photographer Christopher Makos rose to prominence in New York for his raw portraits of artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat. On a dark-grey T-shirt, a photo of Basquiat holding a globe emphasises the artist's international reach and influence.

The fifth charity T-shirt is in black and features a blue code "texture" designed by Akamai Technologies, a cloud computing company.

Uniqlo parent company Fast Retailing will donate profit from sales of the Peace For All T-shirts to UNHCR, Save the Children Japan and Plan International.
