Demanding the repeal four labour laws which are said to be favourable to Industrialists, members of the Joint Committee of Trade Unions staged a protest near Subhas Circle in Yadgir on Tuesday by blocking the main road which leads, from Yadgir, to Kalaburagi, Hyderabad, Shahapur and Shorapur, for an hour.
The protesters formed a human chain. As a result of the protest, traffic movement was hit until the police diverted vehicles on an alternative route. However, many who were not aware of the protest and were asked to take the alternative route expressed displeasure.
The protesters said that the Union Government has been following anti-people, anti-labour and anti-farmer policy and is doing nothing to curb the rising prices of fuel and essential commodities even as the general public suffers to meet its daily needs.
“Without holding discussion with trade unions, the Union Government is implementing labour laws designed to destroy the interest of labour. The trade unions have strongly opposed efforts to bring in such labour laws and they should be repealed immediately,” they said.
The protesters also demanded reduction in the prices of fuel and essential commodities and asked the Government to deposit ₹7,500 per month in the accounts of each family that is not paying income tax. The workers also urged the Government to repeal the new agricultural and electricity laws.
Later, they submitted a memorandum addressed to the President to the Additional Deputy Commissioner.
