Unibet Hurdle Runners Sees Lossiemouth Staying At Home

Unfortunately, racing fans heading to the Cheltenham Trials Day this Saturday WON’T be seeing the second clash of the season between Constitution Hill and Lossiemouth – with the last-named now staying in Ireland – and NOT one of the final Unibet Hurdle runners.

Lossiemouth NOT Declared For Unibet Hurdle With DRF The Target

Having gone down by 2 1/2 lengths to Constitution Hill in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton on Boxing Day – many thought, back at her preferred Cheltenham this Saturday, Lossiemouth would have a great chance of reversing that form (watch below).

However, as the final declarations came out for Cheltenham’s Unibet Hurdle at the weekend. The popular grey mare Lossiemouth was taken out.

This now means the Nicky Henderson-trained Constitution Hill will have one of the biggest penalty-kicks of the 2024/25 horse racing season – having to take on only four others with his nearest rivals Fils d’Oudairies and Brentford Hope rated a massive 29lbs inferior.

As a result Constitution Hill will be sent off the long odds-on favourite with the best horse racing betting sites in the UK – as he continues his preparation towards the Champion Hurdle on March 11th.

Lossiemouth, who won the Unibet Hurdle in 2024, will now be expected to run at the Dublin Racing Festival in the Irish Champion Hurdle.

Where she’ll take on stablemate State Man, who has won the last two runnings of the Leopardstown Grade One.

If she does turn up there – jockey Paul Townend, who rides both State Man and Lossiemouth, will have a hard pick to make.

With the news, Lossiemouth has been firmed up in the market with the layers and is now set to go off as the odds-on favourite.

Unibet Hurdle Runners Headed By Red-Hot Favourite Constitution Hill

Constitution Hill will take on just four other Unibet Hurdle runners at Cheltenham this Satuday. With the race being shown live on ITV Racing.

  • Constitution Hill (Nicky Henderson)
  • Brentford Hope (Harry Derham)
  • Fils d’ Oudairies (Gordon Elliott)
  • Joyeux Manchin (Dan Skelton)
  • Spirits Bay (Nigel Twiston-Davies)

The Last Unibet Hurdle Winner To Win The Champion Hurdle Was Rooster Booster In 2002

With Constitution Hill looking one of the Cheltenham bankers of all time on Saturday. His next stop will be the Champion Hurdle on Tuesday March 11th.

But, did you know the last horse to win Saturday’s Unibet Hurdle and follow-up in the same season was way back in 2002/03.

The horse in question was the super-talented ROOSTER BOOSTER, who was trained by Philip Hobbs and ridden by Richard Johnson.

Binocular did also win both races, but his Unibet Hurdle win was in 2008. While his Champion Hurdle success came in 2010.
