Unhinged acts The 1975's Matty Healy has done on tour - from fan kiss to raw meat

Seeing your favourite band live on stage with the entire crowd belting out tunes usually reserved for lonely car trips is an unmatched feeling. Often shows are a huge spectacle with dancers, pyrotechnics and little glimpses into the artist's backstories for songs.

Fans of The 1975 are being treated to a show and a half by frontman Matty Healy as every single night of the tour has had a clip of the singer go viral.

The 33-year-old singer, who is the son of actors Denise Welch and Tim Healy, is known for his enigmatic arrogance that divides fans.

Hailing from Wilmslow, Cheshire, the band is indie pop rock royalty and has been around since 2002 - with five studio albums to their name.

From kissing fans to eating raw meat on stage, the North American leg of The 1975: At Their Very Best has been utterly bizarre.

Mid-song mini workout

Performances are a workout with many artists incorporating exhausting choreography into their shows, but Matty decided to take this a step further and just do some press ups.

This wasn't connected to the music or the song he was singing, he just took a quick break to workout.

On the screens behind him, glitchy clips of right wing personalities like Andrew Tate appeared and disappeared for an unknown reason.

Smoking while appearing to touch himself

This isn't an uncommon move for artists hoping to add a bit of tension to a song.

But this was uncomfortable to watch - especially if you consider the target demographic for the band is 15-year-olds to young adults.

Healy's fanbase swooned as videos of him doing things like this, but the smoking indoors was probably not allowed, so a bit of a strange move from the performer.

At the end of one video he also sat really oddly with his legs in the air before rocking off the sofa that featured on stage.

Using an oxygen mask

Off the back of the smoking on stage drama, there is the odd occasion where the singer reportedly had to use an oxygen mask on stage.

A picture of him sat on the sofa with a mask on appeared online and a few users tweeted about it - although it got lost in the rest of his antics.

It could be a reference to Harry Styles, who is also on tour and used a mask on stage in Denver recently.

The former One Direction star has asthma so people have suggested this use of the mask was linked to this.

Eating raw meat

There is honestly no explanation for this part of his performance at Madison Square Garden.

Healy kneeled on stage, shirtless, and started to eat what appeared to be a raw steak straight off the bone.

A second video later appeared where Healy was wearing a shirt while eating raw meat, suggesting this is a regular occurrence for the star.

Variety tweeted a video of this second raw meat incident and said it happened at the LA show.

Kissing fans

Lucky fans have been pulled on stage by the star to share a quick smooch - with one male and one female fan being the chosen ones so far.

Before kissing them, the singer can be seen asking for consent from the fan - both of whom said yes without hesitation.

Healy recently said he doesn't identify as gay in an interview with Amelia Dimoldenberg, who is known for her Chicken Shop Date series.

He parted ways with girlfriend FKA Twigs in June 2022 but is not currently thought to be dating anyone.

Shouting in auto tune

The real sensation from this tour has been Matty's auto-tuned shout outs between songs, which have been sending TikTok into a frenzy.

Hits include "Don't throw menthols on the stage, don't like menthols" and "not you guys, didn't mean you guys".

The 33-year-old has since referenced the menthols quote's popularity while on stage as well as shouting other things out on stage with the auto tune.

Whether performance art or just Healy having fun with his fans, there's no doubt as the tour continues more odd actions will surface.

The 1975 are set to reach the UK and Ireland in January 2023 before heading off to Japan and the rest of the world tour.
